Frequently asked questions
How long has the TrapWire system been in use?
The genesis of the TrapWire system lies in an Abraxas Corporation project initiated in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The objective of this project was to develop a capability to help prevent such calamities from occurring in the future. This project evolved into our flagship product, TrapWire for Critical Infrastructure, and its related methodologies and supporting capabilities. TrapWire Inc. was founded in 2004 to commercialize the TrapWire application as well as to design, build and deploy additional counterterrorism technologies and services for the protection of critical infrastructure and personnel, and the first customer went "live" with TrapWire in January, 2006.
How are the threat scores calculated?
The threat scores within the TrapWire software are based on proprietary algorithms developed by TrapWire Inc., and are based on a number of factors including PersonPrint® and VehiclePrint® matches, and characteristics of the suspicious activity.
Who are the other customers using the system?
For reasons of customer confidentiality, we cannot disclose the names of specific TrapWire sites, but our U.S. and international customers include a range of public and private critical infrastructure facilities with the active involvement of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Active TrapWire deployments span a variety of homeland security infrastructure sectors including Commercial Facilities, Government Facilities, Emergency Services, Transportation Systems, Banking and Finance, Water, and Energy, etc.
How can I be sure the information I enter is kept secure?
TrapWire uses extensive physical and system security measures including biometric access, CCTV cameras, live security officers, 128-bit or higher encryption, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and ongoing virus and vulnerability scanning and updates. All servers are hardened to DISA (Defense Information Systems Agency) guidelines.
How often do you make changes to the system?
TrapWire generally releases new "minor" versions (also known as maintenance updates) for the TrapWire software every 2-4 weeks; these maintenance updates contain a variety of system changes including usability enhancements, new features, and periodic infrastructure modifications. Periodically, we will also release a "major" new version that contains significant new functionality.
All major releases, and some of the maintenance updates, are accompanied by an update to the TrapWire User Guide so that our users can learn about the new features in the system.
What domain expertise do your people have in the area of terrorist behavior and from where is it derived?
Our team has directly contributed to fighting the war on terrorism in many ways and possesses a great deal of personal experience in the areas of counterterrorism, terrorist behavior, surveillance / surveillance detection and intelligence operations. Prior to joining TrapWire Inc., our employees contributed to fighting the war on terrorism as intelligence officers, members of the US Armed Forces and as law enforcement officials. Do you have subject matter experts who can help me decipher or interpret a suspicious event that I witnessed/entered?
